Festo was born in the highlands of northern Tanzania.  After completing his education he was fortunate enough to be selected as a game scout in the renowned Selous Nature Reserve. 

He served in that capacity for seven years, gaining significant experience in all aspects of Tanzania’s bush environment. At that point he elected to become a field guide and had the chance to join Richard Bonham, one of the best reputed safari guide in East Africa. He remained eleven years in the Selous Game Reserve, guided mainly walking safaris and was in charge of fly camps for the company.
