Itinerary
Day by day
Day 0: Arrival in Arusha or Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you'll be welcomed by our team and transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. Take time to rest and prepare for the adventure ahead. A briefing by your mountain guide will be scheduled for the evening.
Overnight: Hotel in Arusha/Moshi
Day 1: Moshi/Arusha to Londorossi Gate – Lemosho Glades – Mti Mkubwa Camp
Your adventure begins with a drive to Londorossi Gate for registration, followed by a transfer to Lemosho Glades. From here, hike through dense rainforest to reach Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira Camp 1
After breakfast, the trail ascends gradually through the giant heather moorland, crossing the Shira Ridge before descending to Shira Camp 1.
Day 3: Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2
Today’s trek is a shorter acclimatization hike across the Shira Plateau. The gentle walk allows time to explore the plateau and enjoy spectacular views of the distant summit. This day is vital for acclimatization.
Day 4: Shira Camp 2 to Lava Tower – Barranco Camp
The trail ascends into the alpine desert toward the iconic Lava Tower, offering amazing photo opportunities. After lunch, descend to Barranco Camp, nestled below the Great Barranco Wall, for stunning sunset views.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Today’s challenge is climbing the Barranco Wall, which is much easier than it appears. The day’s hike ends at Karanga Camp, providing a shorter day to allow further acclimatization.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Your journey continues across a series of ridges before reaching Barafu Camp. Rest here in preparation for your final ascent to Uhuru Peak. The terrain is sparse and wind-swept, so it’s essential to familiarize yourself with the surroundings before nightfall.
Day 7: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Starting at midnight, you’ll trek through the night, reaching Stella Point by sunrise, and continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating your achievement, descend back to Barafu and then to Mweka Camp.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Return to Moshi/Arusha
After breakfast, you’ll hike down through the lush forest to Mweka Gate, where you will receive your summit certificate. A short drive will return you to Moshi or Arusha for a well-deserved rest and hot shower.
