Tarangire Day Trip

Arusha, Tanzania

Trip Description

On a day trip to Tarangire National Park, the harsh sun drains the moisture from the landscape day after day of clear sky, turning the dirt a dusty red and making the wilted grass as brittle as straw. The Tarangire River is overrun with animals despite having shrunk to a shell of its former self during the wet season. Numerous thirsty nomads have traveled hundreds of dry kilometers in the knowledge that water is always available here.

Up to 300 elephant herds may be seen in Tarangire National Park, which also has migrating wildebeests, zebras, buffaloes, impalas, gratin’s gazelles, Thompson gazelles, hartebeest, and eland swarming the dwindling lagoons.

The Tarangire National Park in Tanzania is one of the few places in Tanzania where dry-country antelope like the stately fringe-eared Oryx and unique long-necked gerenuk are frequently observed. It is home to the highest concentration of species outside the Serengeti habitat.

2,850 square kilometers, or 1,096 square miles, is the size of Tarangire National Park. Southwest of the city of Arusha, 118 kilometers, or 75 miles, is where you’ll find Tarangire National Park.

Picked –up in the morning in Arusha/ Moshi and drive in comfort to Tarangire Manyara National Park with picnic lunches. The park runs along the line of the Tarangire River and is mainly made up of low-lying hills on the Great Rift Valley floor. Its natural vegetation mainly consists of Acacia woodland and giant African Baobab trees, with huge swamp areas in the south. The birdlife in Tarangire is outstanding, sitting directly underneath a flyby between southern Africa and Europe, capturing migrants from both hemispheres. Leopards are particularly abundant here, as giraffe. But above all are the large numbers of elephant families that concentrate in the park during the dry season in search of precious water in the Tarangire River. This area is very good for herbivores (plant eaters) and you stand a good chance to see Giraffe, Impala, Dik dik and many more. Late afternoon we depart for Moshi/Arusha
